United States Bernard S. Arons, M.D., Director of the Center for Mental HealthServices in the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration(SAMHSA),was given a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the InternationalAssociation of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (IAPRS) at its 1998conference in Florida. Dr. Arons has served as director of the Center forMental HealthServices since 1993. He was honored for his commitment toimproving the quality of mental health services in the United States andinternationally, and for his attention to the views of consumers and familymembers. IAPRS represents agencies, practitioners and consumers of psychiatricrehabilitation services, and has members in every state in the USA, ten Canadian provinces, and also fifteen countries outside North America.
