The EMRC/WFMH is participating in a national campaign toprevent violent behavior. It is led by the Social Work Department of theEducation Ministry. The EMRC arranged part of a training program forschool social workers and psychologists offered in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria andthe Delta and Suez Canal areas. WFMH member organizations involved in thetraining initiative include the Giza Association for Mental Health, theIsmailia Association for Mental Health, and also the Central Associationfor theCombat of Alcohol and Intoxicants chaired by Dr. Gamal ElAzayem. Other training programs supported by the EMRC focus on the preventionof substance abuse and on the mental health of the disabled.
On 8 November the Monofia Association for the Combat ofAlcohol and Intoxicants, headed by Mr. El-Sawy, held a conference on theprevention of community violence which was attended by 1,000 student teachers. Dr. Gamal El Azayem, Dr. Nasr Abraham, Dr. M. El Demerdash and Dr. AhmedEl Azayemparticipated in the meeting. On 6 December a conference washeld under the patronage of the Dean of Zagazig University, Dr. Farouk Ezz El,to launch a local campaign against drug abuse. Dr. Gamal El Azayem was aspeaker.
