In Perak the Society for the Promotion of Mental Health incorporated World Mental Health Day into a month of activities promoting mental health awareness. The Second Mental Health Convention was held in Ipoh on 8-9 October on the theme of “Mental Health – A Time for Reflection.” The ruler of the State of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, gave the keynote address.
In Sabah, a proclamation signing ceremony was held at the Sutera Pan Pacific Hotel with 300 guests in attendance. The Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sabah, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Bernard G. Dompok, presided. Copies of the UN Principles for the Protection of Persons with Mental Illness were distributed.
