Women’s Health and Responsible Parenthood

The Federation’s Committee on Responsible Parenthood undertakes promotion
and prevention projects related to reproductive health and responsible
parenthood. Committee co-chairs Eugene B. Brody and Henry P. David
participated in a symposium in Yemen in 2000. In 2001 the Yemen Psychological
Association distributed a booklet on Reproductive Behavior, Rights,
Health and Responsible Parenthood which included the conference proceedings
and supplementary material. The text, in English with summaries in
Arabic, was edited by members of the WFMH Committee: Eugene Brody,
Henry David, Ma’an Barry (a current WFMH Board member) and the conference
organizer, Hassan Kassim Khan (a WFMH Board member until July 2001).

A guest speaker at the Yemen conference, Gulnara Kuzibaeva, invited
Dr. David to arrange a similar program in Uzbekistan, and Dr. Brody
also agreed to participate. Drs. Kuzibaeva and Barry met with Henry
David and Eugene Brody in Washington, D.C., in March 2001. An expert
panel was assembled, and arrangements were made to hold seminars in
Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara in October, 2001. After the attacks
on September 11 these plans had to be cancelled. This year, however,
Dr. David is working to reschedule the seminars for September 2002.
