The Division of Mental Health in the Ministry of Health devotes considerable attention to a countrywide mental health campaign, which includes a National Event held each year in a different part of the country to provide local education and encouragement. This year the theme was “Mental Health and Individual Rights.” The Health Minister gave the keynote address at the National Event, and the WHO country representative also spoke. An award was given by the Minister to the best mental health worker of the year. Excellent media coverage was secured in the press and on radio and television.
The Kakuma Refugee Camp held meetings involving patients, relatives and refugee counselors. Mental health promotional materials were widely distributed.
