Promotion and Prevention in Europe
Mental Health Europe (MHE), the organization which is also the European
Regional Council of WFMH, serves as the European Union Liaison Office
for Mental Health Promotion. Promotion and prevention are central to
its mission and activities. During 2001 it completed a project on “Mental
Health Promotion of Adolescents and Young People” within the framework
of an EU program, and published a directory of relevant projects and
initiatives in Europe. Under a contract signed with the European Commission
toward the end of the year, it will now participate in a new large-scale
project on “Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Strategies for Coping
with Anxiety and Depression.” MHE is responsible for the policy coordination
of the overall project, and also for the section dealing with adolescents
and young people.
